Welcome back the Snowbirds and trust you all had a great time wherever you were. The Sunseekers had a satisfying summer season with summer competitions taking place. This year thanks go to John and Sue Mannall for organizing and running the usual competitions plus a Singles and Hong Kong Pairs. They also with the help of Ruth Compton gave visiting children a feel of bowling using jacks in ‘Bare feet’ which all enjoyed but were pretty tired on completion. The Eleanor McCraw winners were Mike Hendry & Chris Ewer, The winners of Reliant Trophy were Ruth Compton, John Fitzgerald and sue Mannall. Our carpet has proved a huge success with lots of players improving their game. Thanks to Ron Lloyd in assisting john and Sue by keeping the carpet maintained throughout the summer. I am sure all members would like to thank Shirley and Anthony for making this huge investment and for theirs and our sakes we will make it a success it deserves. You never know one day we might have another giving us the opportunity to be the ‘Bowling Centre of Spain’
The season started once again early October with two friendlies. The first with a Personal Touch Group, our regular visitors Birstall Bowling Club. Followed by Keyworth Bowling Club. As usual we had a very successful and enjoyable social time.
On the 3rd of October the Wednesday League commenced, this year with four Almeria teams, the Rovers, Gunners, and Ramblers with an addition of mainly ex La Mata bowlers called the Wanderers.
Our first club competition the Non Winners Cup was won by Liz Quintrell, the beaten finalist from last year. Both players gave an impressive performance
The Los Gallardos Open Invitation was supported financially by Shirley and Anthony Jackson with prize monies of 140 euro. However because of the disappointing entries will be hard pushed to support it again next year. The winners were Tony and Mary Mullen, Dave and Shelagh Allen.
Well done in the Turre Open Rinks Competition when Tony and Mary Mullen, and ex Almeria members Rod and Lyn Band won an exciting final. We had four other teams taking part an in fourth place John and Sue Mannall, Chis Ewer and Ron Lloyd. A great day for Almeria Bowling Club.
The first of this year’s CALB 11 a Side took place on the 30th October. This year we had three teams. ‘Blue Team’ captained by Sue Mannall,’ Red team’ by John Fitzgerald and ‘Green team’ by Jim Pike. The Blues had a bye, Red’s won two games at Indalo and Green’s won all matches against a Cabrera team. Watch this space for the remaining five games to take place in November.
Our Welcome Together Trophy on Tuesday 23rd October was won this year by the Snowbirds. It was a lovely afternoon for fifty members taking part, finishing off with most of us having Fish and Chips/ Curry, washing it down with a few drinks. Yours truly thanked all members for taking part and asked all those attending to repeat this support for our Christmas Dinner and Prize Giving on December 11th. After our recent committee meeting it was decided to have this in a totally different manner. This would include a fun completion and retire after the morning match to the ballroom for a Christmas Lunch and Prize Giving. There should be no excuses for not supporting this event.
The AGM will take place on the 29th November straight after the Roll Up. The Officers list for committee is posted and looks good for the 2012/2013 Committee.
I have tried to cover briefly the events through the month but please don’t forget most of the above will be found in more detail on our website www.bowlingalmeria.com.
