2013 April Monthly Report
This is your last monthly report until the start of this autumn/winter/spring season, but will of course keep you up to date on the website www.bowlingalmeria.com during the summer months of what is happening generally together with the Eleanor McCraw and Reliant Trophies.
Joan and I departed to U.K.early this year because of Joan’s eye appointment. This resulted in good news in that her eye problem was stable, thus, no injections required this time. We will find out on 28th May if this remains the case.
The Millennium Trophy took place on Sunday 7th April. Because of the busy program of FEB and CALB competitions and the snowbirds returning to UK, we repeated last year’s format, a one day Open Mixed Triples round–robin competition. We invited Indalo and Cabrera members to participate. The winners were a triple from our club, Colin Wright, John and Sue Mannall. Runners up were, John Henworth, Austin Crilly and Chris Ivin of Indalo. Third was from Cabrera, Mark and Georgina Naylor and Maureen Stakes. It was great that all clubs had an interest in the final three positions.
Two friendly triple competitions were played, a Spanish B.C,Vistabella, and East Anglia Bowling Club. The first we were not very successful but the latter was the opposite. However the purpose of these games to have a friendly enjoyable time was achieved and because of this we look forward next year to see them both again. Thanks to Sue Mannall, for arranging these games.
We were the hosts this year for the FEB 321 competition. The winners were Mick Johnson, John Dedman & Keith Harvey. Runners up were Doreen Hall ,Debbie Calhoun and Janey Leggate. Barbara Roscoes played the first two games in place of Janey. Both teams from Indalo. This format will be used in place of our Open Rinks in October. It will be sponsored by Iberian Funeral Plans
Sunday Bonanza continued and winners were 14th John Mannall & Joan Parsons, 21st Margaret Swaby & Colin Wright and the final game before the autumn on 28th was rained off.
Not a great deal more in the competition field took place apart from a great St Georges day on the 23rd when the normal fun bowls match took place in the morning and everyone returned to the Miraflores patio to enjoy entertainment and a wee drink afterwards. The winners of the competition were Stan Brisco, Ron Eden and Rona Hendry.
During the month with the various occasions we have run raffles with Sandra Bain and Chris Fitzgerald doing the hard work and raising approximately 200 euro. Well done to them and all other members who have assisted with the raffles and donated goods during this first part of our bowling season.
I am sure you will all join me in congratulating Colin Wright for completing his first six months as captain and keeping us all happy!!!Finally Jim Pike would like to thank Roy Tonkin, Sandra Bain and others for giving the flowers and plants to put in our little garden and making it look so nice. Have a nice summer
