2014 March Monthly Report
Inaugural Open Pairs Cup: One can never really predict the eventual winners. This proved to be the case with the final games of the competition giving mixed feelings of pleasure and disappointment. The winners were Ruth Compton & Steve Grattage from Indalo with 45 points, second were Viv & Ken Sykes, 43 points from Almeria and third with 42 points were Barry Jones & Ann Reynolds from Indalo. The forth place also having 42 points, but a less favorable shot difference, were Dave Jenkins from Cabrera and Doreen Hall from Indalo. Thanks to Stan Brisco for timekeeping and umpire duties and Colin Wright for controlling the scoring administration.
The ALBC Drawn Triples commenced on 7th March and the first round/quarter finals in the afternoon. The Semi-Finals and Final taking place on Monday 10th. The entries were not as good as in the past with thirty players, ten teams, taking part.This competition is traditionally very competitive, with some teams favorite to progress to the Semi-finals, didn’t make it.
The winners were the team, Allen Deacon, Graham Clough and Eileen Phoenix defeating a very good team of Chris Ewer, Sylvia Pritchard and Sandra Bain
On Thursday 20th March the CALB Men and Ladies Singles Finals took place at Almeria Bowling Club. The Semi-Finals were played at the challengers bowling club. This competition began in December 2013 and involved over one hundred and thirty players from bowling clubs, Almeria (ABC) Cabrera (CAB) and Indalo (IND) Final Championship Winners wereLadies Singles: Mo DeBoer (IND) Men’s Singles: Richard Swaine (IND) Ladies Pairs: Doreen Hall/Janie Leggate (IND) Men’s Pairs: Derek Webb/Alan Deboer (IND)
St Patricks Day, 17th March was another wonderful day and a very informative report from our little leprechaun, Siobhan Herrity made me redundant this year. A full report of this will be found as all other reports above will be found on our website www.bowlingalmeria.com
Wednesday League final results were winners, Indalo Musketeers, second Indalo Vikings, third Almeria Rovers and forth Cabrera Madrid. This year there was a play off to and unfortunately the Cabrera Madrid were unable to raise a team for members retuning to UK. The Gunners who were a close fifth then stepped in. Most who took part thought it a pointless exercise, however most enjoyed the occasion. In this exercise the first and second place stayed the same with the Gunners in third place and Rovers in forth
Our membership has decreased by approximately 20 players due to Mojacar Bowling Club opening and several players going to Indalo. We wish them all good luck and thanks for their contribution to Almeria B.C. in the past.
Finally, Jim Pike has worked hard to keep our carpet in good condition, despite wet and sometimes dry and very dusty conditions. He would like, as we do, to thanks for the help he has had from Ron Lloyd. Vic Parsons – ABC Press Officer
