2010 CALB Men & Ladies Pairs Finals
On Sunday the 11th April the CALB Men and Ladies Singles took place at La Mata B.C. On Sunday 18th starting at 1100 it was the turn of the Men and Ladies taking part in the CALB Pairs.
These competitions are reported and published in the local press with photographs and included in the Almeria B.C. website ww.bowlingalmeria.com .
The first ladies Semi-final between a host team from La Mata, Maureen Halliwell and Maureen Ives against a pairing from Indalo B.C. Barbara Ruscoe and Maureen Ruscoe. (Mo) Both Maureen’s were on fire conquering Barbara and Mo Deboer very comfortably. The second was between two Cabrera pairs, Judy Abel who had won the CALB singles the previous week was partnered with Chris Ivan, against Jackie Mayhew and Sandra Marriot. This was a very close intense game with Jackie and Sandra leading 15-2 on the tenth end. Judy and Chris then seem to come alive and fought back to be level on the seventeenth end at 16-16. Judy and Chris appeared to have the game sown up on the last end with them holding the winning shot until unfortunately Judy moved the jack on her last delivery, moving it towards Jackie and Sandra’s wood and giving them the game.
The Final was a simular game to the last game above with this time Maureen Halliwell and Maureen Ives streaking away and in a winning position on the eleventh end at 18-5. This time it was the turn of Jackie Mayhew and Sandra Marriot to fight back. Again scores were even, this time 21-21 on the seventeenth end. On the last end Jackie and Sandra were holding when Maureen Halliwell moved the Jack on her third wood towards the opposition’s woods, then on her last delivery she was very close to taking the game, but lost on the measure.Well done to all girls for a good final.
At the same time the ladies were playing, the men commenced their semi-finals. All four local clubs were represented. A pairing from the host club, Harry Taylor and Barry West played Jim Pike and Terry Rodgers from Almeria B.C. Unfortunately for Harry and Barry, Jim and Terry were really in form leading on the seventeenth end 23-7. However on the eighteenth end the leaders relaxed too much, allowing the La Mata pair to win a ‘hot shot’ which for those who are not aware is taking all eight woods. Of course this did not alter the result with Jim and Terry the winners. The second semi-final was a game between the Cabrera pair, John Shannon and Roy Savage who on the day did not perform as they can, with the Indalo pair Peter Steensrup and Bob Green not giving them time to breathe and winning easily.
In the Final, Jim Pike and Terry Rodgers gave their intentions on the first end taking four shots from Peter Steenstrup and Roy Savage. They continued throughout the game not letting Peter and Roy relax, although they fought hard to the end, only losing by two shots. Well done Jim and Terry.
Dave Jenkings the Captain of the Day for the Finals day, presented cash prizes for all finalists and thanked Ken Halliwell for umpiring both the Singles and Pairs CALB competitions, the bar staff and everyone who had assisted in making these occasions successful, especially La Mata B.C. members.
