This well supported two wood singles knockout competition started on Monday 7th November, a brilliant sunny day, with the preliminary and the two part first round matches taking place throughout the day. This is played as the title suggests with two woods and only the winning shots within one metre counting. This year it was played to the original rules, playing a maximum of twenty-one ends. The winner being, the first to twenty-one shots or with the most shots on completion of twenty-one ends.
Friday the 11th November the Quarterfinals and Semi-finals were played.
The first Sem-final featured, Chris Ewer and Jim Anderson. This was very close, nip and tuck affair with Chris winning by two shots 12-10.
The other was between Catherine Patrick and John Fitzgerald with John having no mercy with Catherine winning the contest comfortably.
The Final was set to be an epic match and we were not let down. Chris was on fire and John was unusually slow in settling down. On the sixteenth end the way Chris was adapting to the conditions better than John it looked all over at 10-5. John then started to peg back the shots, but couldn’t quite make it with Chis being the victor by one shot at 11-10. .
Once again the standard of play within our club was tremendous and it was good to see so many members supporting the club, watching all rounds of the competition. Sue Mannall presented the cup to Chris and Jim Pike gave thanks to the many markers who of course without, we couldn’t run the competition
