2012 CALB Hong Kong Pairs Finals Report
The Semi-final and finals of the above competition took place at Indalo Bowling Club on Sunday the 1st July on a glorious sunny day. The finalists who had completed six games in three groups to reach this position were from the Cabrera and the Indalo Bowling Clubs.
Group A, was won by Chris Ivin and David Jenkins from Cabrera, Group B, by Mo and Alan DeBoer and Group C, by Barry Jones and Dave Sewell. From Indalo B.C. The best runner up between all groups made up the final position to take part were Keith Turner (standing in for John Henworth) and Austin Crilly from Indalo B.C. Well done to the other runner ups who in Group A, were Farah Mehmet and Derek Webb from Indalo and in Group C, a pair from Almeria B.C., John and Sue Mannall.
The first semi-final was between Barry Jones and Dave Sewell against Chris Ivin and David Jenkins where the game was fairly even for the first nine ends. After this Barry and Dave put pressure on leading by 18-10 on the fourteenth end. However David and Chris then increased their effort and scored seven shots on the fifteenth end and looking good, but failed to continue giving Barry and Dave a deserved win.
The second Semi featured two very good Indalo pairs, Austin Crilly and Keith Turner against The husband and wife team, Mo and Alan DeBoer. Unfortunately for Austin and Kieth, Mo and Alan were on fire and won comfortably
The Final was eagerly awaited by the spectators and they weren’t disappointed. Barry and Dave continued their quality game, leading for the first thirteen ends. Mo and Alan did not relax and took the lead on the fourteenth end by scoring three shots, but couldn’t maintain this allowing Barry and Dave to storm home.
After the final, Dave Jenkins, Chairman of the CALB committee congratulated the winners and finalists for taking part in this year’s competition. He also thanked all players, John Dando for umpiring and administration staff for making this competition a success and the spectators for giving their support. The President of Indalo, Mike Champion then presented the winner’s trophy and prizes.
