The continuation of the ALBC Drawn Rinks and the CALB 11 a Side commenced the month’s activities. At the time of writing the after six matches the ABC Red Team and the CAB Blue Team will contest the Final at a date to be arranged. Watch this space in December to find out the outcome.
In the ALBC Drawn Rinks the final was played and contested by teams made up of Colin Wright, Patsy Tonkin. Pat Beattie, Stan Brisco against Les Pratchett, Catherine Patrick, John Mannall and Joan Parsons. This superb game went to an extra end with Colin’s team coming out the victors. Congratulations must go to all players who gave us a final to be remembered.
The penultimate competition of 2012, the Palace Cup Handicap Cup was not supported well with only 25 members taking part. The semis were very close and exciting games but the Final was a little disappointing. Chris Ewer looked throughout the ultimate winner; however his opponent Roy Tonkin who had also played well was determined this was his competition and unfortunately for Chris it turned out this way.
The last club competition of the year, the Arthur Pinn Drawn Pair’s, was delayed because of rain, but commenced on Friday 16th instead of Monday 12th November. The support was very good with 42 players, taking part. The Semis and Final were played between rain showers on Monday 19th. In the Final John Fitzgerald and Siobhan Herrity were well ahead on the tenth end at 13-3, but from this point Tony Mullen and John Mannall started putting pressure on and at the seventeenth end scores were level at 17-17. The last end Tony and John held there nerve and won by two shots. The standard of play throughout was extremely good and produced lots of good quality matches.
The FEB Men and Ladies Singles was played from 22nd until 26th November where John Fitzgerald reached the quarter finals but struggled with a very bad back and was only beaten on the last end with his opponent scoring four shots. John Mannall did extremely well reaching the Final and put a good fight but lost to Dereck Webb from Indalo Bowling Club. As we currently only have three FEB members in our club, didn’t we do well? On the 29th of November the 2012 AGM took place after the roll up and was reasonably well attended. Our Chairman, Anthony Jackson thanked the committee for the work done during the past year and gave particular thanks to the retiring Jim Pike captaining the club for the last five years. He also welcomed our new Captain, Colin Wright and Social Secretary, Sandra Bain. Both Jim and Colin gave brief speeches where Jim thanked everyone for their support during his reign and Colin for his intentions on putting back smiles on our faces!!! A proposal for a corrugated roof on our patio construction was not voted in on a cost basis. Finally a thank you to Anthony and Shirley who proposed a new venture in holding a drawn bowling competition to be held on available Sunday’s, where there would be two Sunday Lunches given to the winners. This would have an entrance fee which would go into the club funds. This was accepted by all enthusiastically
We now look forward to our new ‘Christmas Lunch and Prize Presentation’ which will take place after our roll up on December the 11th where at the time of writing has attracted sixty-six attendees. Please remember all the above can be read in full on our website. wwwww.bowlingalmeria.com There will only be a brief report for December whilst I am in UkJoan and I take this opportunity to wish all members a very Happy Christmas and Prosperous New Year
