2012 CALB Fours Report & Photos
One hundred and four players, twenty six teams, from all local bowling clubs took part in this four day competition commencing on the 4th of December. Commencing with the preliminary round on the 4th and then proceeding with the first round and quarter-final, reaching the Semi’s and Final on Sunday 9th Decembe,r which was played at Almeria Bowling Club.
The standard of the competition during the knockout stages was extremely good with some high profile players knocked out in the early stages.
Teams from all clubs were represented in the Semi’s, with the Indalo team of Doreen Hall/Janie Leggate/Bill Seymore//John Hensworth, beating the Almeria Team of Thelma and Ron Gamble/Ron Lloyd/Siobhan Herrity quite comfortably. However hats off to this Almeria team for getting so far in the competition.
The other semi- final was another easy win for the Cabrera team of Trevor Robinson /Jackie Mayew/Gill Young and Jean Smallwood, which was a great surprise as the Indalo Team of Peter Swaby/Doug Frith/Margaret Swaby and Alan Eadle looked very much the favorites during the early rounds.
The final was on paper going to be a close call, however although it was not a high scoring game, Doreen’s team could not really get on top of the Cabrera team lead by Trevor Robinson. Well done to the Cabrera team.
After the game the Jim Pike the CALB representative thanked the many visitors for supporting throughout the competition and Colin Wright for Umpiring and then asked Sue Mannall, the Almeria Ladies Captain to do the honors of presenting the prizes to the Finalists.
