Coaching Tips:
Since this club changed from grass to carpet the one coaching tip that seems the most appropriate is how to take the wide green the carpet demands.
Many bowlers have exchanged their bowls from the type suitable for grass to ones more suitable for the carpet and they in general have a narrower bias, this does not mean they are narrow running bowls, they just do not require so much swing as the older type bowls.
So how do you adjust your green to get the correct line?
There is a formula that you can work to the diagram is here, if you would like help with finding line and length do ask one of your coaches to help you, one tip to help, count how many times in a game your bowl crosses the centre line, if it does you are bowling narrow and need to make an adjustment to the line you have selected sometimes it is just a matter of moving your whole body over on the mat a little

The line your bowl takes does not vary, be it a long jack or a short jack, but the breaking point does.
The Formula is:
Once you know the line your bowl takes to return to the centre line, the break point is two thirds of the distance between mat and jack.
New bowlers and social bowlers aim to let your bowl finish no more than 1m around the jack, the more experienced and competition bowlers your aim is within 24” of the jack, we call this mat length or MT
