2013 Parsons Trophy & Jackson Cup Report & Photos
Photographs by Vic parsons & Allen Deacon
The entries for these competitions were good compared with previous years. They were played on Friday 15th and Monday 18th February. The standard of play was of a continued high standard and a pleasure to participate in and watch.
The ladies Jackson Cup winners were Ruth Compton and Sue Mannall. The men’s Parsons Trophy winners were Stan Brisco and John Mannall
Ruth and Sue in the ladies first semi-final were on fire, giving Thelma Gambol and Siobhan Herrity who had a tremendous run to this point, a tough time and winning comfortably.
The other ladies semi-final was between Pat Deacon and Viv Sykes who had a real battle against Sandra Bain and Patsy Tonkin. Sandra and Patsy were in the lead after eleven ends. Pat and Viv then started to apply pressure, inching ahead and scoring on each of the following ends, winning the game
The first men’s semi-final between Stan and John against Jim Pike and Terry Rodgers was a quality game. Unfortunately for Jim and Terry, Stan and John were in very good form, not letting them settle into their game and won well.
The second men’s semi-final between Colin Wright and his regular pairs partner Roy Tonkin played Rod Digweed and Wayne Roberts, another regular pair’s duo. On the sixteenth end Colin and Roy went one shot ahead, but the next end was a disaster for Rod and Wayne when they lost five shots, virtually putting Colin and Roy into the final.
The Jackson Cup Final was a very exciting game with Ruth Compton and Sue Mannall looking good and leading the way at the eleventh end by eight shots. Pat Deacon and Viv Sykes then started scoring purposeful shots and on the fifteenth end scores were level at 15-15. This wonderful final was completed by Ruth and Sue taking two shots on the next end and Pat and Viv not quite making it by scoring a single shot on the last end.
Parsons Trophy Final, the defending champions Colin Wright and Roy Tonkin played Stan Brisco and John Mannall. This was another excellent final with bowls played. at the highest level. The scores were even at 10-10. The next couple of ends, Colin & Roy went ahead scoring four shots. Five shots scored on the sixteenth end put Stan and John one shot ahead and continued the pressure winning the game by three shots.
All the games including both of these finals were well supported by an enthusiastic number of spectators in beautiful weather. Trophies were presented by yours truly. Please don’t forget that the above competition reports and photographs will be found on our website www.bowlingalmeria.com and the Sol Times if space allows.
