2013 Inaugural Cup Report & Photograph.
The Open Mixed Pairs – Inaugural Cup was played on Monday 4th and Tuesday 5th March in continued threatening weather. This year we give a big thank to the Iberian Funeral Plans company for generously sponsoring us. The entries were very good with a total of twenty-eight pairs from Indalo, Cabrera, Mazarron and our own Bowling Club.
The competition schedule was planned for two groups playing three games each to be completed each day over a timed period, hoping to play eight ends within that time in each game. Although continued rain was forecast over the period we were lucky and fortunate to get sufficient time for both groups able to play two games each day before the heavens opened. Thanks must go to all those players who stuck to the task and played there games in spite of heavy rain.
Points were awarded for wins, draw and ends won. One can never really predict the eventual winners. This proved to be the case with the final games of the competition giving mixed feelings of pleasure and disappointment. The winners were Graham and Catherine Patrick with 35 points from Almeria. Second were Paul and Judy Abel, 32 points from Cabrera and third were Doreen Hall and Andy Cooper with 30 points from Indalo bowling clubs.
Colin Wright expressed how well the competition had gone considering the conditions and gave thanks to Maureen Atkins for her usual expert production of schedule and score cards. Yous truly who unfortunately for personal reasons only completed the first day, must thank Colin for doing the donkey work in running this competition.
Cash prizes were presented to the first three pairs by Dawn Coleman of Iberian Funeral Plans of 80 euro 1st, 40 euro 2nd and 20 euro for 3rd.
