2013 ABC Monthly Report
The CALB Fours League competition commenced in January and continued in February, when our local clubs played against each other over six games. Clubs were split into two groups, Red and Blue and a mixed Red & Blue Group. This year our Red Group was third and Blue Group second. Winners in Red were Cabrera and Blue Indalo. After a final calculation which took into account the Mixed Group, Indalo were the overall winners.
The first of this month’s club competitions were the Appleby Vase, Ladies Singles and Dyer Cup, Men’s Singles. The winner in the Appleby Vase was Jane Franklin over Patsy Tonkin and Chris Ewer in the Dyer Cup over Roy Tonkin. Jane continued with her very good current playing form, however, Patsy who played well, couldn’t match Jane’s onslaught. Roy and Chris had a very competitive game with Chris winning by six points.
The next club competitions, The Jackson Cup, Ladies Pairs and Parsons Trophy, Men’s Pairs took place on the 15th & 18th February.
The Jackson Cup Final was a very exciting game with Ruth Compton and Sue Mannall looking good and leading the way at the eleventh end by eight shots. Pat Deacon and Viv Sykes then started scoring purposeful shots and on the fifteenth end scores were level at 15-15. This wonderful final was completed by Ruth and Sue taking two shots on the next end and Pat and Viv not quite making it by scoring a single shot on the last end.
Parsons Trophy Final, the defending champions Colin Wright and Roy Tonkin played Stan Brisco and John Mannall. This was another excellent final with bowls played. at the highest level. The scores were even at 10-10. The next couple of ends, Colin & Roy went ahead scoring four shots. Five shots scored on the sixteenth end put Stan and John one shot ahead and continued the pressure winning the game by three shots.
Ladies Charity Triples series of games continued against Cabrera and Indalo. These games are thoroughly enjoyed by our ladies. Monies raised was 295 euros for this year’s charity Asprodelda, achieved by selling raffle tickets for superb prizes to be presented at the annual ladies only dinner at Bellavista Restaurant on Thursday 21st March. A big thank you goes to Sue Mannall who works hard to keep these events going.
Sunday Bonanza – Our competition introduced last month and sponsored by Anthony and Shirley Jackson who donate a full Sunday Lunch in the Miraflores Restaurant, to be taken within a month. These were held on the 10th, 17th and 24th and proved extremely popular with all clubs. Winners on 10th were Austin Crilly and Rod Dougal, an Indalo/Almeria partnership. On the 17th an Almeria double Stan Brisco and Roy Tonkin. The final winners for February were a Triple and again involved Stan Brisco who this time was joined by two of the French Perigord Bowling Club players, Brian Miles and John Shand.
Finally please don’t forget full competition reports, photographs and schedules of all competitions will be found on our website, www.bowlingalmeria.com Whilst writing I must add that if more members used our website there would be less disappointment for members unable to be around when the entry sheets are produced. Very often members who return to UK or holiday elsewhere and would have been available when the competition/s are held, could use the information on website. They then can inform me or Colin Wright that they would like to be added to the entry list and be included in the competition schedule.
