2014 Parsons Trophy & Jackson Cup
(Jackson Cup (Ladies) & Parsons Trophy(Men’s) Club Pairs.
The entries for these competitions were as good as previous years. They commenced with the Ladies preliminary round on Thursday 13th and then continued over the weekend, ending up on Sunday 16th February with Semi’s and Final. .
The ladies Jackson Cup winners were Verna Bimpson and Dianne Reynolds. The men’s Parsons Trophy winners were John Fitzgerald and Graham Patrick.
Verna Bimpson and Dianne Reynolds in the ladies first semi-final were on fire playing Siobhan Herrity and Eileen Phoenix who had a tremendous run to this point, however Verna and Dianne played well enough to win comfortably.
The other ladies semi-final between Catherine (Cath) Patrick and Sylvia Pritchard gave last year’s semi- finalists Sandra Bain and Patsy Tonkin a difficult battle. Level on the eighth end at 7-7, they were unable to go ahead, when Cath and Sylvia cruised home. To win.
The first men’s semi-final was between Tony Millington and Derek Weeks against Ken Sykes and Allan Deacon. A hard fought game where Ken and Allan would not let Tony and Derek get ahead. Although they had a spirited finish on the last five ends, Ken and Allen won by a single shot
The second men’s semi-final between Chris Ewer and Ron Lloyd played Graham Patrick and John Fitzgerald was a terrific quality game, Similar to the other men’s semi where Graham and John pressurised Chris and Ron not letting them go ahead and winning by three shots.
The Jackson Cup Final was a very exciting game with Cath Patrick and Sylvia Pritchard going into this game as favourites. However Verna Bimpson and Dianne Reynolds had other ideas. Cath and Sylvia started well and were in the lead for the first and last time on the fifth end. They then lost six shots on the next end and never recovered, as Verna and Dianne went ahead with ease, putting new names on the winners’ cup.
Parsons Trophy Final featured possible favourites, Graham Patrick and John Fitzgerald against a new pairing of Ken Sykes and Allan Deacon. This was a good game and unfortunately Ken and Allan couldn’t put Graham and John off their game allowing them to win fairly comfortably.
All the games including both finals were well supported by an enthusiastic number of spectators in sometimes cold and miserable weather, especially the finals. Our Captain, Colin Wright thanked spectators and proceeded to present the Trophies. Please don’t forget that the above competition reports and photographs will be found on our website www.bowlingalmeria.com and the Sol Times if space allows.
