Eleanor McCraw Pairs Competition & Reliant Trophy Triples
Once again these popular drawn competitions have reached the finals. A short report follows on each, thanks to information given to me by our Captain Jim Pike and Brian Saunders.
The Eleanor McCraw played on 7th September was a very close fought affair, with talented newcomer Lois Swain and Rod Digweed playing against veterans Brian Lovett and Alan Terry. Most of the match was very close with only a couple of points in it with Lois and Rod leading the way. Unfortunately towards the end they dropped five shots which was hard to recover from. Alan and Brian showed their fight and experience by holding the lead and winning by one shot.
Reliant Trophy was played on the evening of 11th September between Alan Terry, Rod and Viv Digweed against Jenny Thompson, Bob Marchant and Brian Saunders. Between them they gave a good performance appreciated by the many spectators. Alan and team started well by winning the first five ends accruing a lead of nine shots to nil at which stage Jenny and team woke up and started to fight back. Although they fought back valiantly and at one stage were only two shots behind, Alan, Rod and Viv managed to win fairly comfortable with five shots ahead.
Jim would like to thank all who supported the competitions throughout the summer and give special congratulations to our newcomer Lois Swain, for Rod appending his name to the trophy for the third year in succession and Alan and Rod for figuring in both competitions.
