The last Monthly Report for 2014 and we have had a positive year going forward with a good Almeria membership taking part in all Club, CALB and FAB competitions.
The Avalon Cup (Drawn Triples) sponsored by Avalon Funeral Plans reached the Final after nine weeks. The top six players after this period were the winners, John Fitzgerald, John Burgess, and a new bowler Christine Parkinson. The runners up Reg. Birmingham, Lyn Burgess and Carol Roberts.
This year the CALB Fours were well supported with twenty-four teams taking part from Indalo, Mojacar, Cabrera and Almeria Bowling clubs. The Semis and Final was played at Almeria Bowling Club. Winners were from Almeria B.C. with the team, Bryan and Rachel Thompson, Paul Fitzhugh and Ron Lloyd Runners up were a team from Indalo B.C., Barbara Ruscoe, Tony Davies, John and Sue Mannall
The Palace Cup Handicap Cup was supported well with thirty-four players taking part. This year we went back to updating the calculation when all members were given a handicaps from inputs from five members of a selection committee.
The winner was Reg Birmingham playing off scratch, who was successful over last year’s winner, John Fitzgerald also on a scratch handicap. This was a close quality final ending with the score at 21-20.
Our Christmas Lunch and Presentation took place on the11th December. Once again a very successful afternoon with a very good attendance after the roll up. This year no photographs were taken of the finalists as those that were taken after each competition during the year was deemed to be sufficient. Well done to Sandra Brown for arranging the Christmas Dinner and with Eileen Phoenix organizing the Raffle. Other thanks to John Lodge and Miraflores staff, for excellent service with the buffet and entertainment. .Continuing with Christmas time, a big thank you to Jim Pike for looking after the fun days on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day
The new committee under the Captainship of John Fitzgeraldwith the assistance of our versatile members moved forward, giving our club surroundings the new smart and safety conscious look. Special thanks to Tony Mullen, Graham Patrick for putting steps onto the green. For all the other members help with laying ‘rink 9’ artificial grass and painting the walls and space between the new filling in between the greensand thanks to Ken Sykes for taking the leading role in that area. There is lots more planned, just watch this space!!
